Education: Doctor and Master of Philosophy, National Taiwan University, Bachelor of Chinese, National Taiwan Normal University, Taichung Municipal Taichung First Senior High School.
Experience: Prof An-Wu Lin is the first Doctor of Philosophy of National Taiwan University, Honorary Chair Professor of Donghua University, Distinguished Professor of Yi Xue and Ancient Chinese Philosophy Research Center, Shandong University. He used to be the professor and director of the Institute of Religion and Humanities of Tzu Chi University, and the dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, founder of Yuan heng Academy, Vice President of Nishan Shengyuan Academy and guest professor of Wuhan University, Zhongnan University, Xiamen University, Tongji University, Sichuan University, Shandong University and many other universities.
He used to be the Fulbright visiting scholar, professor of the Chinese Department of National Taiwan Normal University, professor and director of the Center for General Education of National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan, founder of the institute of philosophy of Nanhua University, chief editor and director of Legein Society, chief editor of the Thought and Words: Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences, member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Universities of the Minister of Education of the Republic of China and member of the council of International Confucian Association (ICA).
Research interests and expertise: His research covers Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, Neo-Confucianism, modern philosophy, cultural philosophy, philosophy of religion, philosophy of education, social philosophy and philosophy of human nature. He has had a main concern on the alienation of human beings and humanity’s possible recovery from it. He has published many books, mainly including A Study of Wang Chuanshan’s Philosophy of the History of Human Nature, Being, Consciousness and Praxis, A Study on the Intellectual History of Ideas of Modern and Contemporary China, Chinese Religions and Logo-therapy, The Revolution of Confucianism, The Turning Point of Confucianism, A History of the Philosophy of Contemporary Neo-Confucianism, A Philosophical Investigation into Confucianism and Traditional Society of China, Misplaced Dao: the Essential Problem of Chinese Political Thought, Cultural Therapy for Taiwan, Before and Beyond Mou Tsung-san: A History of the Philosophy of Contemporary Neo-Confucianism and Some Inspirations from Buddhist Mind. From 1990 onward, he has proposed the idea of “Post-New Confucianism,” which has gained attention within academic circle and has been studied internationally. He has been regarded as one of the most original philosophers after Mou Tsung-san.
