Their teachings and practice are aimed at attaining an authentic, durable happiness by cultivating a transition from the self state to the self-elightenment state. The purpose of the project is to link Buddhism to psychology. The intention of this project is to guide future and innovative research into the potential mutual enrichment of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism and current social science theory, research, and practice. More research is needed on this front. It is hoped that the project will open significant new avenues for mental health research and unravel the secret of why Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism have lasted for thousands of years.
